Check your gardens for treasures! This time of year, seeds are maturing and getting ready to grace our gardens for next year with their beauty and bounty by providing the necessary seeds to do the job.
We are hoping that you will help us build Steele Memorial Library’s seed catalog by saving seeds from your garden and bringing them in to share with other library patrons. If you do bring seeds to us, simply place them in an envelope or bag and note what kind of seeds they are. We will process them and get them added to our collection.
Not sure how to start? We have books to help you get going:
Seed to Seed: Seed Saving and Growing Techniques for Vegetable Gardeners, by Suzanne Ashworth
Seedswap: The Gardener’s Guide to Saving and Swapping Seeds, by Josie Jeffery
The Complete Guide to Saving Seeds: 322 Vegetables, Herbs, Fruits, Flowers, Trees, and Shrubs, by Robert E. Gough
Also, if you purchase packets of seeds and find that you don’t need them all, we would welcome the donation! Your spare seeds will help us grow the seed lending library. Thanks!
