Quarantine Cooking with Emma – Applesauce Cake

Time for something sweet. I had an open jar of cinnamon applesauce in my fridge, so applesauce cake was the winner. This is another thing that comes from the family recipe bank, so no recipe link for this one either. Applesauce cake is delicious. Dense, but moist and doesn’t need any icing. Sticks together really well so you can eat it like a brownie, no fork needed.

The recipe as written makes an 8×8 cake, I doubled everything, so 1 cup of butter, etc, to make a 9×13.

Bake at 350 degrees F, for around 40 minutes. Poke it with a toothpick or such to check doneness.

Since I was using cinnamon applesauce, I only added 1 tsp of ground cinnamon to the double batch mixture. Like more cinnamon? Do your thing.

The batter for this cake is very thick, when you add to your greased cake pan, be sure to use your spatula to push into corners, scrape your bowl clean, and smooth out the top of the batter.

When baked, this cake has a mild sweetness and bread-like texture that is a little addictive. Enjoy!
