A Look at Summer for the Bookmobile

The Bookmobile has a very active and busy summer: Summer reading club, summer cohesion, Southport parks, Taffy program, and our monthly book club.

We encourage everyone to join the summer reading club (kids, teens, and adults). You can earn cool weekly prizes by keeping track of the things you have read and then join us for the end of the summer party.

We serve over 1000 kids per week during the summer at all the summer cohesion stops, Southport parks and Taffy program in Big Flats. The kids can come on during the visit and check out a book or two to use and enjoy until we return each week during the 6 week program. It is such a pleasure to see how much these young readers enjoy coming aboard the bus and picking out something special to them.

On the Bookmobile we have a monthly book club that we hold right on the bus. We meet the 2nd Friday of every month at the Bulkhead location and have a discussion of the book we just read. Each person can share their thoughts about the book and then there is usually a question answer time. Several of the patrons that have been coming have formed lasting friendships.

Did you know the Bookmobile participates in several summer community programs, such as Old McDonald farm, Touch a truck, Farm city days, Strong kids Safe kids, Wellsburg community days, Octoberfest, Pumpkin express and 4 parades? We always have a fun-filled day planned with several activities to enjoy.

If you have not been on the Bookmobile to see what we offer, I encourage you to stop by when you see it at one of our locations and come on board and talk with staff. We have children’s fiction and non-fiction books, adult fiction and non-fiction books, large print, audio books, and movies.

The Bookmobile is not just for kids, it’s for all of Chemung County residents.
