If you are like me, you are ready to plant your garden, even if the weather says no. There are some plants that are frost hardy, and if you have these seeds at home, you can get started if we have a warm spell for a few weeks that allow the seeds to germinate and get big enough to withstand frost before the next cold snap. Looking ahead to the weather we might have those conditions in store!
The following seeds can be planted before the local frost date:
- Peas (cover with straw or similar if there is to be a cold snap)
- Spinach
- Radishes
- Cabbage (plant as early as 4 weeks before your last frost date)
- Broccoli – (plant as early as 4 weeks before your last frost date and cover with straw or similar if there is to be a cold snap)
- Kale
- Arugula
- Carrots
- Onions
- Lettuce (cover with straw or similar if there is to be a cold snap)
- Swiss Chard
- Beets
- Garlic
Any kind of a head start in your gardening plans goes a long way.
