Cherries in Winter – Book Review
Author Suzan Colon draws upon her mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother’s legendary resilience and recipes to sustain her after she loses her magazine job. Her family’s practical wisdom and stories of how to survive spiritually, financially, (and gastronomically), in tough times can help us all. This book is not ALL scrimping and making-do; Suzan’s family believes there are times when it is necessary to indulge in an occasional small luxury to keep one’s spirit from being impoverished, no matter the economic circumstances. (Hence the title: ‘Cherries in Winter”).
Sprinkled throughout the book are family recipes featuring simple, hearty fare that delivers maximum comfort and nourishment, with minimum impact on the budget.
VERDICT: This book is as warm and heartening as vegetable stew on a cold winter’s day.
