Summer Reading Club Begins
Summer Reading Club starts for kids, teens, and adults on June 29th! The club theme this year is superheroes, with Every Hero Has a Story for the youth club; UNMASK! for the teen club; and Escape the Ordinary for the adult club. As in previous years, each branch will host a variety of activities in the months of July and August and weekly prizes will be awarded. Starting June 29th, reading club registration will be available online via the CCLD website by branch and age group. For more information, contact your local library.

Technology Training at CCLD Libraries

Learn how to use your tablet in a casual setting, talk to other tablet users, share woes, get advice, ask questions, and more. Bring your tablet or smartphone and your questions!

Join us for hands-on learning activities that will lead to healthier lifestyle changes! Workshops are 90 minutes and include a food sample and take home recipe.
Presented by Cornell Cooperative Extension, Eat Smart NY.

Preserving Your Family Treasures
On June 9th, 3-4pm, join us for a free, fun and informative session describing how to best care for family papers, photos (print and digital), and other heirlooms at home. Participants are encouraged to bring questions and challenges they have faced in caring for these items. Coffee and light refreshments provided.
Social Media 101: Simple Strategies for Social Media Marketing
Join us on Thursday, June 11th at 12pm. This class is a beginner’s look at how your business or non-profit can start thinking about using social media marketing. You will learn why it’s important, how engagement marketing factors into your business, and basic information on each channel. Feel free to bring your lunch. Terrence Malick Film Festival
This month we will be showing a series of films by Academy Award nominated writer/director Terrence Malick. Join us at 2pm on Monday, June 22nd for The New World (starring Colin Farrell), Tuesday, June 23rd for Badlands (starring Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek), and Thursday, June 25th for Days of Heaven (starring Richard Gere). Terrence Malick is known for his beautiful visual style which features intense colors and dramatic natural lighting.
Club Veg Presents: Protect Your Memory
Join us on June 24th at 6:30pm for another informative program presented by Club Veg. This DVD has been seen on Public TV and features Neal Barnard, MD, discussing 3 Simple Steps for Improving Brain Function and Preventing Memory Loss. We will also show the extras, including 10 Deadly Food Myths and 10 Meals in 10 Minutes. Through compelling stories and proven research, Dr. Barnard provides vital steps to boosting cognitive function along with valuable insight on how to Protect Your Memory.
"So bad, it's good!" Movie Night
Join us on Tuesday, June 30th, 6:30pm at the Steele Memorial Library for another installment of "So bad, it's good!" Movie Night! This month we are showing The Mole People. As always, heckling is encouraged! Free snacks!
Summer Reading Club Kickoff Party
Teen Summer Reading begins this month! On Monday, June 29th at 3pm, we will be having a Kickoff Party with a movie showing. Sign up for Teen Summer Reading Club and watch Mila Kunis become a hero in the movie Jupiter Ascending. How are you a hero in your life?

Teen Philosopher’s Guild
Meets the first Monday of each month (June 1st, this month) at 6:30pm. June's Topic: Forgiveness. What is it? Is it necessary & why? For teens ages 12-18 who love to debate issues, discuss philosophy and other conundrums in life. Led by Corey McCall, Elmira College Faculty.
TED Talk Teen Night : Parkour & more!
Tuesday, June 9th at 6pm; each talk on new ideas in Technology, Engineering & Design will inspire. Request and watch your favorite topics. Snacks and games will be available.
Little Makers Club
Friday, June 5th at 10:30am, kids ages 1-5 can come and explore at our Little Makers Club with free, fun, hands on Art and Science Activities!
Sign Language Storytime
On Saturday, June 13th at 11:30am, toddlers and preschoolers can join Miss Yuki for a Sign language Storytime. Kids learn sign language while being engaged with songs, stories and fingerplays.
Father's Day Gift Bags
Wednesday, June 17th, kids can stop in and make a special gift bag (with treats) to give to Dad on Father's Day. All materials are included, but if you want to bring a special memento to include as well, bring that along too!
School's Out Movie
Celebrate school being out with our free movie, The Incredibles (PG) on Friday, June 26th at 2:00pm (snack included).
Summer Reading Club Kickoff
Sign-ups for our Super Hero Summer Reading Club will begin Monday, June 29th and our Steele Kickoff Event will be Thursday, July 2nd at 2:00pm. Join us and become a super hero by visiting our super fun stations!
The Big Flats Library would like to thank you for another successful season of programming. As the Winter/Spring session comes to a close, we are taking a few weeks off from programming to gear up for the start of the Summer Reading Club.
We are not taking the whole month off though, Jabe Warren is returning with another session on gardening tips on June 23rd from 6-7:00 p.m. This program will be "Everything Tomatoes: pruning, staking, etc." We hope that you will join us as Jabe takes us through everything you need to know to grow beautiful tomatoes in your own garden.
Summer Reading Club Kickoff
On June 30th, from 6-7:00 p.m. come to the Big Flats Library for the Summer Reading Club kickoff. There will be stations set up for you to superhero crafts and of course, sign up for the reading club. There will be all things Superhero all summer at Big Flats and you will be the biggest Superhero of all.
The Bookmobile is excited for our first Adult Book Club discussion on June 5th at the Bulkhead stop at 1:30pm. The book that we are discussing is Home Front By Kristin Hannah. The book club will meet the first Friday of every month at our Bulkhead Stop at 1:30pm (July's meeting will be on the 10th, because we are closed on July 3rd). Feel free to join in! The book we are reading next is Memory Man, by David Baldacci.
We will be starting to wind down as schools will be letting out for the summer soon. We wish all the kids the best of luck and hope they have a happy summer.
Birding For Beginners
Adults and teens, join us on Wednesday, June 10th, 6:30-7:30pm, for a fun, informative presentation on the art of birding! Learn how to become a bird-watcher, learn the types of local birds, find out where to watch for local birds, and more! Presented by naturalist and ornithological expert Bill Ostrander. Father’s Day Craft and Gift Basket Drawing
Monday, June 15th through Friday, June 19th -
Children of all ages are invited to the library to create a Father's Day Craft. Every participant receives an entry form for a Father's Day Gift Basket. Drawing will be held on Friday June 19th.
Kitty Lit Reading Program
Join the Chemung County SPCA and some of their cats on Tuesday, June 23rd, 3:30-4:30PM, and read your favorite stories to them! Practice your reading and make the kitties happy! Bring a book or choose a book from the collection. Open to students in grade 1 through grade 6. Call 739-4581 to register. Space is limited.

Thursday Morning Story Time
Join us Thursday June 4th & 11th at 10:30am for a fun time of stories, music, and movement! Ages 18 mos to 5 years.
There will be a jewelry making craft for kids on June 17th at 3:30pm (registration required).
Adult Book Club meets on June 18th at 3pm. Registration is appreciated! This month's book is Behind the Beautiful Forevers by Katherine Boo.
Young Adult Book Club meets on June 22nd at 7pm. Registration is appreciated! This month's book is I'll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson.

Friends Student Poetry Deadline Extended
Friends of CCLD is extending the student submission deadline for Poetry Abounds! until June 1st, 2015.
Calling all student poets! View the submission guidelines here or ask for a guidelines sheet at the Steele Memorial Library. Poetry Gallery artwork images must inspire poems. Students in grades 1-12 are eligible.
